Photography an art?

I have a great fascination for photography from my childhood like most people have. Camera's and the film were so expensive then, we had to let go of many good snaps that we wanted to capture. Thanks to the digital technology we are now free to capture as many pictures we want and use them for many many applications. I have many questions in mind about the camera, camera technology is developing in two different areas, commercial cameras and professional camera. Now the biggest question that comes to my mind is how important is the camera for the photography? Is photography an art? or is it only limited by the equipment that you have. As an armature photographer it is the question every one asks. I started with my digital photography with a 3 megapixel minolta camera, i should have captured close to about 7000 images through this camera till date and still capturing. I was really excited about my first digital camera and clicked photos at will. I was finally liberated from the burden of film photography. With my new found excitement i started clicking and to my surprise i had created a lot of useless photos in the process. With a film roll, you wait for the right moment to click the shutter but with a digital camera you are not limited by the film size and only by the memory size, hence you click more often. So we come back to the question again, your photo depends on your creativity or on the camera? Many would not agree with me but in my opinion you need to have a lot of creativity to take good photos, equipment will only help you marginally. If you google you will stumble upon many great photographers and their work with camera built on a mobile phone. I do not say that the costlier equipment is a waste of money but it is my feeling that if you do not have an eye of creativity, best of the equipments that you have is useless. Megapixel on the camera will not really matter as long as you want to really print large format.
